I came across a small 'Tapper' keg like this one:

I plan on refurbing what I can and modifying it to run off a regular CO2 tank.
My only concern is that there is a grayish tan coating inside the keg that has flaked off in a few tiny spots. 99% of it seems to be in great condition.
Should I attempt to remove this coating? If I do should I re-coat it with something? What should it be coated with?
