I used half a Whirlfloc tab and then I just let it sit in the carboy for a while before I put it into the Better Bottles. I didn't filter it, I didn't whirlpool it in the kettle, I just opened the valve and let it dump into the carboy. With the wort that clear I left the crud behind even though I wasted about 3/4 gallon.
I used the BIAB method and wasn't particularly careful about the grain, but the bag itself acts as a filter. But the hops and proteins that form were after that step anyway. I don't know, it just happened.
Next time I'll increase the batch size a bit to make up for the 3/4 gallon. As it is I'm up to about 4 3/4 so not too short.
