Cleaning seal for primary lid

I'm giving everything a good Oxiclean scrub today after Saturday's racking, and I was wondering if I needed to remove the seal in the lid of my primary during this cleaning. Will soaking the lid with seal in place suffice?

I've never removed the seal. I just wash off the lid. Then, I soak it in star san before I brew. I've never had a problem. I've been using the same bucket for about 2 years now.

Likely not, but the seal is so easy to remove why not?
