A friend offered me a plate chiller. He hasn't brewed in years. He can't remember what his cleaning regimen was after each brew day, but said I'm welcome to use it.

How in the heck do I go about getting this thing back in usable condition? Is it even possible?

I'd start by removing all fittings then baking it in the oven at its highest setting for a couple of hours. Then hook up a water hose to the wort side and blast it out in both directions. If you get it to run clear you should be good to go, but if you still see crud exiting you might need to go the caustic route...

Cheers!

If you have a teapot or something, it is helpful to pour in some boiling water (into both the wort side and the water side) and let it soak for a while. You can get a lot of the crud out that way, before you start with PBW/Acid/Caustic.
