I cleaned my fermenter with easy clean that came in Midwest starter kit with proper amount and a nonabrasive sponge for 5 min straight. Still smells like wort but no visible dirt or grime, minus a slight yellow tinted ring above where krausen residue was. Is this a problem, do i need to clean more or does the plastic retain the smell?

yeah, it'll likely smell a bit like that forever at this point. Just make sure it's as clean as you can get it, and sanitized and it'll be fine.

I sometimes dry my fermenters in the sun for a couple days when the weather's good, and that seems to help take some of the smell out.

Mine have a permanent scent of beer also. I don't mind though and sometimes my SWMBO finds me in the office/guest room/homebrew equipment storage room with the bucket on my head wafting the wonderful scent of beer.

ahh yes, that sweet smell.

when i made my oktoberfest i was going to sanitize the only fermenter available and it had just had an IPA in it....i thought it might make the beer smell like citrus hops. i did not notice any off smells. everything turned out great
