I've been pulling together a build list for a new recirculating eBIAB setup (5gal/120v). In this next kit, I'm looking to address the little things that probably fall into the "prefer" rather than the "need" category. (My current build list includes Custom Spike kettle w/ welded fittings, TC port for element, custom SS mash basket, Parts for a CraftBeerPi controller, etc)

Just came across this kit from ClawHammer Supply. It looks like they haven't shipped any yet (to start Nov 1) but wondering if anyone has experience with them as a supplier?

I'm more than happy to DIY this next setup but the price point ($850, free shipping) on this seems very reasonable for a turnkey, all-in kit.

Thoughts?

Cheers

doesnt look like much power to me. Sure its about the power as grainfather etc. but the shape of the grainfather is more suitable to weak power. With that id think you would have a long wait to get a full 6.5 to 7 gallons to start to boil, and when it does it will just be a light simmer. If you buy it id get a hot rod heat stick as well and run it to another circuit for the heat to strike and boil

Agree. Power seems low but coming from a propane fired 3 vessel HERMS wasn't sure if it was doable. Planned to use a 2250W at 120v in my setup (should be about 18.75 amps - need a 20amp circuit!).

Maybe I'm missing something, but I've always figured if I go electric, it's gonna be 220. I just don't think you can get enough out of a 110V 15amp circuit to heat/boil the volumes you need for a 5.5 gallon batch.

Also, I've always figured 10 gallons is pushing the lower limit for a BIAB 5.5 gallon batch system, especially if you want to do a high abv stout or something.

Also, I'm not a fan of plate chillers. Unless you're doing 10G+ batches, I think a good immersion chiller works as well, is more flexible and easier to use/clean.

Shrug, I like the idea, but I'd be doing a 12-15G kettle, 3000 watt 220 heating system and a hydra chiller.

My old setup used 2 15a circuits. One circuit per 1650w Element. The controller ran one element and the other i used just as a booster to reach strike temp and to keep a really nice boil. (3300w total).

They were both mounted in a 15g Jarhill kettle and worked great. My typical strike water for a biab was around 9 gallons and I didnt have to wait long.
