I've read all about the concentrations and temps for various acids for passivation.

I'd like to use citric acid. Is it necessary to completely submerge for passivation, or will a constant CIP spray work.

It's easier to mix up 2 gallons and spray my 14g unitank than it is to fill 14 gallons.

Any thoughts?

Contact times that you'll find in pulished standards are for full submersion ensuring costant and uniform contact. Using a spray ball would add an extra layer of uncertainty.

Was trying to avoid having to use 5 lbs of the stuff for one fermenter. Like you said, I could try it. Results may not be as good, but it surely won't hurt anything and will be better than nothing.
