Cider seems more equipment dependent than beer. I make some good ciders and would be happy to help out but tell me first do you plan on bottling, or kegging. Second how dry does she like her cider? Apple juice ferments very dry but if you want to make something sweeter like woodcuck/ Hornsbys/ Strongbow. you need to do extra work. Third What ABV are you looking for and Finally still or sparkling Cider?
 
You can't go wrong with cider and yeast. I prefer ale yeasts to champagne yeast, a wee bit fruitier.. grab some pasteurized cider with no preservatives and any yeast you want and you're ready to go!
