My water report indicates that I've got up to 1.4 ppm chlorine. Doesn't seem like much, but how much is too much?

As far as I know, any chlorine is too much. Good news is that if its chlorine and not chloramine, it should boil out. If you aren't getting plastic/bandaid flavors, its safe to assume this is the case. If you are, Campden tablets are probably the easiest and cheapest way to treat water with chlorine and chloramine.

+1 to this; a single crushed tablet will treat up to 20 gallons.
