My back can't take it anymore, so I built this collar for my chest fermentation chamber.

Second thoughts...as always:
1. the clamps could have gone on the inside.
2. locking nut on the clamps.. they rotate sometimes and if too tight of a clamp the fixed pieces start to raise up at the joint since it is glued with silicone.

As for number one above: Drinking homebrew and thinking outside the box doesn't mix sometimes. So, what's wrong with number one above?
 
Nice! I double hinged mine. Not because of my back or anything, though. I just had an extra set of hinges around. Each part opens up 90 degrees... about twice as much as in the pic. You can either lift just the lid, just the the collar, or both.
