I bought this refractometer from the Walmart marketplace. But I don’t understand its readings. It seems to say that it’s units are %v/v, which I assume means “% alcohol by volume”. That seems like a weird (maybe impossible) unit for refractometer readings, especially since the refractometer is supposed to be used BEFORE fermentation.
Does anyone know if there’s a correction/conversion/workaround, or should I just return this ASAP?

Can't see the pic, but, usually you'll want it to read sugars, and show brix. Most for brewing will also show SG.

You link doesn't work, but if it says " %v/v," that's probably a spirit refractometer, which unfortunately isn't useful for brewing. It's for measuring alcohol content of distilled beverages.
