I used to get the 15 gal barrels like that for free from my LHBS store. It's what they get LME in. Works fine although not that easy to clean with the small openings. I finally got a conical now, but I may still use the barrels for things when I need more brewing space.
 
I bought one of those 15G barrels from US plastics. Used it twice. It's a major PITA to clean. I ended up hack sawing the top off just below the first line. A 10G Cooler lid can be fitted down in. It's the recesses in the lid that make cleaning a giant pain.

Not a bad idea. I may toy with the idea of cutting the top off of one of mine.
