My original gravity was a little low, maybe I should have boiled longer? Anyway I was wondering if I could add table sugar or DME ( dissolved in boiling water of course) to my fermenting wort, to up my gravity and ABV?

Yup, either one is fine, just be careful about sanitation and cool it to fermentation temp before adding it. I use DME if I need more than a pound in 5 gal (unless it's Belgian or I want to dry it out). Cheers!

i would use some pilsen light or golden light DME depending on what type of brew.

What style is the beer? Do want it drier or more residual sugar? Saison or IPA I would do sugar, mild, stout, porter, amber etc I would use DME.

You can add any gravity to your og for alcohol purposed. For instance, if your og was 1.040 and you added 10 gravity points of extra fermentable sugar your effective og was 1.050.

Thanks! That's the info I was looking for. Cheers
