Cereal killer mill adjustment problems

Anyone have any issues with their cereal killer? I’m using a feeler gauge to adjust the crush but the rollers just can’t seem to get any tighter than .038”.

Also wish I got a feeler gauge sooner. The writing on the mill for the gap settings is wayyyy off

Yeah the markings on all the cheaper mills are often reported to be off. The cams to adjust the gap should rotate all the way around till the rollers touch each other. I believe its vary easy to have them out of phase with each other and then the roller binds against the sides of the mill.. that was an issue I fought with until I figured out what was going on.

Once you get it set to your liking, you can use a center punch to make your own index marks. +1 on the feeler gage, you can't trust the factory marks on a gadget like these.

I used a credit card... thats the gap I use as well.

I can rotate them but the rollers never touch. Doesn’t get any closer than .038” for some reason. I might have to take it apart and see what’s up. Thanks for your input

Was able to adjust it down to .036 after taking it apart and messing with the 4 screws in the pic I uploaded.

I had to loosen two of them in order for the non adjustable roller to be straight with the other roller. Otherwise one side of the gap would be more loose than the other side.

With that being said, it looks physically impossible to get the gap any smaller

Sounds like time to get customer service involved. Could be undersized rollers, mis-machined end plates, mis-machined eccentrics, or a combination of errors. Not a roller mill expert, but I am the best machinist I know.

there should be two eye bolts that are used to lock in the setting. Did you loosen those up?

Good idea! I will be calling them tomorrow for sure. I just looked at the product page on AIH and it looks like they're able to adjust down to .025". There's no way I could achieve something that tight with how it is right now.

Yes, I loosen them and then use the side knobs to adjust. I can visually see that one end of the adjustable roller can get closer to the other roller when I am turning the side knobs. No matter how much I fiddle with the knobs, it doesn't get any tighter than .036" and it is not even from one side to the other.

you probably figured this out but unless you adjust both sides at the same time in the same direction, the roller will just bind against the sides at an angle and stop moving. do the knobs both spin a full 360 dergrees?

Yup they both spin all the way around but one side just doesn’t seem to get as tight as the other
