Mellow, bourbon is mellow even at room temp. Lot of caramel and mild coconut. I prefer my BAABWs to be boozy, this one isn't that.

Solid, but if I could do it again, I wouldn't let it wallow in my closet for 4 yrs.

Had 2010 BA Yeti yesterday, held up pretty well. A tiny bit of latent oxidization but mostly fudgey with a hint of vanilla.

InB4 duceswild ... 2012 Juliet is surprisingly heavy on the acid, with not a lot of the aged AWA acetic aspect. Fruit is there, but it's pretty one-note with tartness. No real depth. Not the beer it once was but worst case scenario, I'll use the 2nd half of this bottle and mix it with some gin and tonic, aka the-how-to-drink-Upland-sours rule.

As I drink more, the fruit becomes more prevalent. Still very acidic but better than my initial impressions.

Rasperry juice nose
Gently tart, little to no carb.
Aged beautifully, fruit has held up well.
Juicy, fruity, refreshing expression of framboise

Some recent beers from the cellar:

2014 FIS
No surprise that this is great. Always balanced just right. I think anything between 1 year and 5 years is more or less consistent.

Tilquin squared. I balked at the price when this was at the local hippy grocery store a few years ago and only bought one. Think it was like $17 or something. I haven't had any lambic whales, but have had more or less the entire portfolio of "normal" beers from 3F, Cantillon, boon, etc. and this is probably my favorite lambic. It was intense, well integrated, just perfect. Wish I had a case of this more than just about anything I can remember.

I think this is like 5+ years old if I remember correctly. Before opening, I kept thinking that I was going to kick myself for holding on to this for so long. Figured it would be super sour and the fruit would be dissipated. Well, I was totally wrong on that. I think this is less sour than grand cru, probably more like regular rodenbach. This is probably one of the few beers with multiple fruits I've had where I am sure I could have identified each fruit blindly. Also, it's strange, kind of raspberries immediately transitioning to cherries, and then finally finishing with cranberries. This is a fruit beer, rather than a beer with fruit, if that makes sense. Overall, I would have guessed this was super fresh.

2012 Goose Island - Night Stalker

Bitter chocolate, some hoppyness remains, smooth, not to hot. Can really taste the base of BCSB which was very pleasant. Would drink again.

2009 Deschutes - Mirror Mirror

Pretty sure this was the infection batch going in and tastes supported that. Tart, slight sourness, some fig/dark fruit, watery oakness. This was a mess and was all over the place.

2010 Sierra Nevada - 30th Anniversary - Charlie, Fred, and Ken's Bock

Fallen off some but still was very good for the style and age. Good bit of floral was as well as a light amount of butter. Bitterness comes through on the finish. Thin throughout.

I think this is 2011?
Slight hiss upon popping cap. Minimal carbonation, nice dark toffee color. Very smooth raisin-y smell. Taste is very much caramel-dipped raisins with the slightest alcohol oxidized finish. Very aged JW Lees-ish. Superb. Not sure why I held onto it for so long except, beer.

2011 Goose Island - Pepe Nero

Seems to have held up well, though this beer was just not doing it for me. Still a good bit of peppercorn coming through on the smell and taste. Medium body, high carbonation still, very slight start of oxidation, but didn't take away from the beer.

2012 Goose Island - Bourbon County Coffee (22oz)

Wow, this is drinking fantastic right now, wish I had some more. Coffee still very present and dark chocolates. Good thickness in the mouthfeel. Well balanced with the ABV and coffee.

Why can't GI still make bourbon county like this...

2011 Olde Hickory - Lindley Park

Oxidation has set in, but once you get past that the flavors are still very much there. Strong raspberry presence throughout with a thin stout base. Honey comes thru and adds to the overall sweetness of the beer. Still a good beer, but past its prime.

2012 Foothills - Barrel Aged Sexual Chocolate

This year was pappy barrel aged and I will say that the nose and taste of this beer certainly has similar characteristics to other pappy barrel aged beers. That said, this beer is still hot and this could probably still sit for a few more years. Thick sooth mouthfeel. Strong oak flavors on the taste with some chocolate and dark fruits.

2011 Kuhnhenn - Prometheus

Interesting beer that I have not had fresh. Rosemary and sage on the smell. Mouthfeel is thin and the taste has a watery cardboardness to it. Seemed overly thin for 11%. Taste of Belgian spices and yeast. Also, get some raisin.

2012 Bruery - Chocosaurus Rye

Seems to have gotten better with age. Wish the Bruery made some of their stouts with this much flavor and a similar 7% ABV. Cocoa and vanilla on the nose. Body of the beer in thin and the mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Taste is a strong vanilla presence with the rye blending in well to add to the overall vanilla. Sweet chocolate. The overall sweetness is definitely there to remind you it is a Bruery beer.

JW Lees Sherry 2005 held up really well! minimal oxidation but added to it nicely. nice nutty, oaky, sweet sherry and ton of toffee of course. very smooth and slight carb.

Firestone Walker 2011 Abacus- softer carbonation, smoother, sweeter dark fruits, no negatives of oxidation yet. I'd drink it sooner rather than later. Wonderful as it is.
