I think I prefer the family preserves to the cut. But I also absolutely prefer saison to oak theory, so I guess this should surprise me less than it did.

Haven't tried Family Preserves yet but I actually prefer the Fruit Stands to the Cuts so far. Unlike you though I prefer the Oak Theories to the Saison (not that I dislike the Saison; I just like Oak Theory more).

I loved every bottle of Saison I've ever opened, I wasn't the biggest fan of Oak Theory on the two occasions I had it. Can't wait to pop my family preserves.

I have yet to try my bottles of CFP. I am waiting to try them at WTF tonight. All I know is that the color on every picture I've seen of it looks insane, looking forward to trying it then deciding whether I should drink my bottles now or later.

So I had my first Saison, bottle dated 1/17/15, wicked sulfur smell that persisted through the entire pour. Is this common? I didn't get it from the East Bank I have had.

That batch has been consistently one of my favorite saison blends. Last one I opened was fantastic, although that was a few months ago. Anyone had this more recently? Hope it isn't something that all the bottles from this blend have developed recently.

Bottle split 3 ways, all of us agreed. Hard boiled eggs, straight up. It did fade a little but was still noticeable at the last sip.

I drank it all anyways, zero fuxx, albeit it farty smelling, it was still good.

I noticed sulfur in the East Bank bottle I had in March. Low enough that it wasn't unpleasant really at all honestly, but definitely something I noticed that I've never identified in a beer of a similar style before. Much more noticeable in the nose than body.

That 1/17/15 blend has been one of my favorites too. So much so that I traded for another bottle recently. I've never noticed anything like you're describing, so hopefully it's just bottle variance.

Lol you like drinking farts

The gf and I tried a Montmorency Fruit Stand tonight, definitely falls comfortably in the middle between Sour Balaton as my favorite and Sweet Cherry as good but not great. This one had by far the most cherry cobbler-ish pie filling flavor of the three though, with Sweet Cherry being lighter and Sour Balaton having a more juicy, mouthwatering fresh thing going on right now.

This makes me sad. Hopefully the 12 shipper landing with you next week gets that smell out of your nose ;)

Which Montmorency did you have? Was it the GABF-distro blend? Or the one from the August release?

Right on. I just opened the same one this afternoon. It's really good!

Most definitely, I really want to get all three cherry FS and CFP variants together for one big tasting but wont be able to make it out for the October release. And we drank our last Sweet Cherry pretty much instantly after we got back from the Sept one haha.

I won't be at the October release either. It's one week before my wedding haha. But after the 10th, I'll have a WHOLE lot more free time to pop some bottles. We'll have to be in touch.

I too love this batch and also traded for more. I think I have one more left.

What do you guys think of the new BPT approach? I hope it works well for Troy... he seemed pretty stressed out when he saw how many people were lined up by 7 am at the September release. It seems like this approach will hopefully make it less stressful for everyone involved.

Plus, you can't argue with the BPT money going to charity!

I definitely appreciate it after waking up at 3 AM and missing the full allotment at 7:15 last month. this way I know what I am getting before I make the trip and I can stroll up at 1-2PM and not have to worry.

Of course, Im sure someone will always be unhappy.

I'm all for the BPT style but I am happy I won't be making it to the October or November release so I can see how it plays out without being personally invested in the outcome. I certainly appreciate that Troy is continually trying to make the releases smoother. Can't say the same for a lot of breweries.

Love the BPT move. Now if I get a ticket and want to head up, I can take the whole family and not worry about ditching them for a morning while I wait in line. This way I can just head over for a few hours, know I'll be able to get some bottles and enjoy the location, then head back. Perfect.
