I have been trying to find this answer and can't find it anywhere.

Used the Munton Carbonation tablets in my last batch. let them sit for two weeks to carbonate and settle. found a lot of sediment in the bottom and floaters in the beer. have made this same batch a couple of different times and have used irish moss to clarify. but now i have floaters. wondering if this is a side effect of using these tabs or not. first and probably only time i will use them.

also wondering if gelatin would be worth using in extract kits if i use irish moss already

please advise

Those Munton's carb tabs are notorious for floaters. I won't be using them again.

There is always going to be sediment in the bottom of a beer bottle with home brewing. It's the yeast etc flocculating out.

I can't see any benefit in using gelatin as well as Irish moss.

Coopers tabs tend to also leave floaters. I'll shake the bottles to break it up and let it settle back out. This seems to do the trick. I don't suggest gelatin as it's supposed to be added after the beer is conditioned.

Oh man. I just bought some carb tabs for the first time. Despite the floaters, how was the carbonation?

I tried 24 with 4 tabs and they worked out great but with low retention.

12 with 5 tabs. good retention but large head

12 with 3 tabs. gave the ppffsst. sound but low carbing.

probably won't use them again.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I'll use what I got. Then, either try out the Cooper's tabs or go back to corn sugar.

I think the three tab method is for traditional English ales with low carbonation. Probably just what you'd want for an English bitter.

I used the muntons in a batch....used 6 per bottle (500mL)

3 weeks later, 0 carbonation.....

Guess i'll keep waiting......

I've used Coopers to carb a few bottles of apfelwein at a time and didn't get any floaters in them at all.

I've used Cooper's Carb Drops for about 10 batches, and haven't had any issues with floaters or low carbonation. I've also begun batch priming with sugar more often, but will continue to use the drops, I find the level of carbonation perfect for my taste. They have a bit higher cost than sugar, but it's completely worth it to me.

Haven't used the Munton's yet because I didn't want to fool around trying to find the right amount for each different beer.
