Can you can your homebrew??

1st post for me. I love this site and have learned alot. I tried to search for the info but could not find it.

Can you bottle your home brew in aluminum cans? I toured the SKA brewery in Durango before they expanded and they hand canned all of their canned beers. Would getting bulk cans be the hard part?

I think getting the machinery to put the lids on the cans would be the hard part, getting the cans would be just a matter of ordering them from a can supplier.

The devices I saw at SKA looked like large bench cappers.

if you can get the cans and the "capper" i don't see why this wouldn't work. just do the usual sanitation job on the cans before use.

It's not something that you can do as easily or cheaply as bottling.

What about those aluminum bottles that the BMC breweries are making? I've been thinking of trying to come up with a method of removing the paint from them and trying that and just capping them.

The problem with that is that you'll have to drink the contents to get the bottles empty... Unless you just dump it.

I much prefer to have my homebrew in the can rather than put it in the can.
