Can i use a small necked demijohn to brew kombucha

As the title says or do i have to get a 1 gallon glass jar as i understand you cant use metal or plastic as it will leach weird flavours or can i use a cooking dish made of clay you know like a deep pie dish?

If you use a small-necked bottle, you won't be able to remove your SCOBY once it reaches any significant thickness.
