So Im at the end of my build and need hoses and disconnects. I really dont want to spend the money on SS quick disconnects even though I really want them. Any reason not to go with cam locks?
Next...
I see people talking about the flow rate of the barbed fittings... Is it problamatically restrictive? And I saw a solution (bobby M?) for streching the hose over the threads on a street elbow instead of using a barbed fitting. If this works better why not get female camlock with male Npt threads on the other end and just strech the hose over that? Any one tried this?

I use the cam locks and they work excellent. I did use the barb fittings in some places, because I ordered before reading about the restriction of the barbed fittings, but it still flows fine. Of course the threaded fittings would be faster, but the flow of the barbs is not so bad that you find yourself getting frustrated. If I were to order again though, I would go with the threaded ones.

I'm not quite following on this. You say you would go with threaded fittings over the barbed type. How do you attach a fitting to a hose without using a barb?

^^^^ Yep. I watched BobbyM's videos on them after I had ordered, and actually have one hose connected to a 1/2" ss nipple on my pump and didnt' even grind the threads. It's a tight fit to strecth it, but it is possible. I went ahead and put a clamp on it, not real tight, but just for extra insurance against a leak or air getting sucked in. Check out BobbyM's you tube videos, there's some good stuff there.

I didnt even grind the threads. Pulled it on the elbow a bit and then threaded it on. I added a white zip tire to it as well. Wasn't necessary though.

I ordered seperate SS barbs from bargain fittings and threaded camlocks. Not as much flow as grinding the ends off, but look much nicer!

I ended up grinding a few of mine...it took time but was worth it. It allowed me to fit a 3/4" camlock into 5/8" tubing....which wasn't gonna happen otherwise. Can't wait to see the flow of these things....you can almost fit your thumb in there! BTW, these are definitely worth it....quality, materials (316SS), and price are excellent.

Just received my shipment of 1/2 type A camlocs and SS elbows from Bargain fittings. Is there a trick to slipping the 1/2" silicon tubeing over the knurled end ??
