This band has been hitting all the year-end lists, and I meant to get around to this album earlier this year. Man, I wish I had been jamming this all year! Solid OSDM without sounding like they are just ripping everyone off.

I like to go back and look at what I thought was my top 5 at the end of any given year, and what has changed dramatically with a couple years of listening. I can tell you my top 5-10 from 2011-2012 are VERY different than what I would put now.
That is the one thing I think is weird about year-end lists in general. Really, I think you should make a list of the best albums of 2014 in 2016. I usually try to put something together each year and I also enjoy seeing other peoples picks for the same reasons you mentioned. I haven't really had time to hash anything out yet but your post inspired me to think back through what I've really enjoyed this year.

Also I was fortunate enough to acquire a new amp this year and, as a result, have been glued to my listening room whenever having some time to spare as my system has never sounded better, amazing in fact. Resultantly I can say without doubt that the records I've chosen here have immense listening value, a couple might take repeated spins to digest fully while others grab you by the short hairs from the first spin and just don't let go.

Overall it's been a very good year, especially for power/heavy genres. Put all of these on your playlist, hit random play and prepare to be blown away repeatedly...

Genre Wars be damned. This band slays live. I own most of their albums, and when I play them, all I can think is, man I wish this was as good as them live. Not hating on their recorded music, but it just doesn't capture what they do in a live setting.

Agreed, they actually played here in town a few years ago with Wolvhammer at a freaking dive bar and there were like... 30 people there. It was sad to see so little people turn out, but the show was floccing awesome.
