I just got my C02 tank filled for the 1st time at a beverage dispensing company, so I was assured "beverage grade" gas. (They even carry some special gas for dispensing stouts like Guinness). The cost to fill up my 5lb tank was $22. Is this reasonable? Also, I'm sure it's been asked, but how long can I expect this tank to last w/2 tap kegerator?

I have paid as high as $28 Cdn for a 5 pounder refill, but usually, now, I pay $22.
My options for a refill are limited here locally and those places are the only ones who refill.

Beverage Grade? CO2 is CO2 no matter where it comes from. I paid 18$ for a 5 lb exchange never again I can get a 20lb filled for 22$. So you r price is in the ball park

Beer gas in different . Its nitrogen and CO2

Wondering if a sticky thread would be a good idea, where folks can chime in with a location of where they get a fill, and the cost? That way folks who are new to kegging can reference it, and know where to go?

By going to a bev company to get your gas, your paying a premium. The gas most bars and places use come from industrial gas companies and welding companies. The CO2 is the same quality. 99.9% pure. This goes for beer gas used for stouts. In STL I pay $8 for my 5 pounder, $15 for my 20 pounder and $20 for 40cf of beer gas. I suggest shopping around next time.

there is a thread floating around. try a search.

Yeah mine was 22 when I went for the first one. Pretty shocked. I'll be getting a bigger tank soon and calling around for a cheaper price.

I just paid $8 to fill my 5# at the local fire extinguisher shop. The welding supply place wanted $24, and it was exchange, so i'd have to give up my brand new shiny tank. I dont think so!

I pay $5 dollars to fill either my 2.5 or 10lb tank. The thing is, it is not a pressurized system it is a 50lb tank filling my 10lb so I only get about 4-5 pounds in it. But for $5 it is fill while you wait so I am not gonna bitch.

Its about $22 for a refill on my 5lb tank at an out of the way paintball shop. Its the only place I could find that would touch a 5lb tank. The local commercial gas places will exchange a 20lb tank for the same price, so I'm busy searching for a 20lb tank before my small one runs out again.
