Small favor to ask......

I brewed my way through college years ago and temporarily dropped the hobby upon graduation. I got back into it almost a year ago when I modified a recipe from BYO for a hamms clone.

This would have been from a 2011 issue between september and november.

I "tweeked it" with a half a pound of 60 crystal, some additional corn and some other additons and came out with a really amazing easy american ale. I know hamms is most likely a lager and I know its not a full bodied ale but I was really happy with what I came up with.

I usually save old magazines but cannot find this one to save my life. Could someone help a brewer out and dig this up for me? I'll brew it and post the revised recipe if its as good as I remember.

Thanks in advance,

Adam
Born again brewer

PS After neglecting to record my recipe after this I learned my lesson and havent failed to note every recipe and its adjustments since :drunk:

Thanks Mikey, I'll give it a try. After further thought it was the specific hopps that were in that recipe that I was after and their additions.

Thanks for offering up what you had. The specific issue will prove helpful.

I actually checked a couple different sources last night, and the recipe was the same. I haven't found that issue of byo, but i'd guess the recipe I linked to is the same. Hope it works out for you.

So I hit up the local HBS and checked their 2$ bin of old magazines. Jackpot!!

The recipes suggested were close. After my tweeks that I had made prior here's my final recipe that I'm chilling to pitch right now.

8# 6 row
3# flaked corn
.75# crystal 60

60 min
.5 oz hallertau
.5 oz tettnanger

15 min
1/2 tsp irish moss

5 min
.5 oz hallertau

Pitch with wyeast american ale

Said I'd share it when i found it so here ya go. let you know how it turned out after a tasting in 2 weeks.

Thanks again for the direction and help.

Sounds nice! I may have to try something like this but lager it with some Notty... kinda Same Adams-y with the Hallertau and tettananger

Not a bad idea. I don't have the mechanical means to lager prior to the cool months here in Wisconsin. This was the recipe that got me back in the hobby/habbit of brewing almost a year ago. Simple and easy. The original was an extract batch with the crystal on the side using packet american ale. Definately a keeper. If ya do the lager hang on to this thread and let me know how it turns out.

One more thing... what is the notty you speak of???

Wish I could help. I love this mag. They should make their old issues available online; all of it.. That (what they do publish online) is how I got into this publication and subscribed. It's invaluable but it deserves exposure.
