i would like to make some apple cider and some recipies say to use cider yeast and some just say yeast. Where would i find cider yeast and could i just use baking yeast? and for elderflower wine the recepies say you need brewers yeast but can i just use baking yeast?
Thank You,
Sam

You can just use baking yeast for both recipes. That being said, I highly recommend against it. Visit a homebrewing store in your area, or online, and order a good quality brewer's or vintner's yeast. You can find plenty online, just google homebrew supplies. The end product will be sooooo much better if you use a good yeast.

Bakers yeast often has a lot of contamination in it, your best bet is a general purpose wine yeast or a yeast listed specifically for cider production.

Check out link below. He uses baker yeast in a mead. I've brewed the recipe and its not bad. The mead isn't one I particularly like, but I've had compliments on it. Its very clean fermenting which surprised me. I don't know I'll ever ferment with it again, but I like knowing that I can.

I've used baker's yeast in 1 mead, vintner's yeast for 3 mead's and beer yeast in 1 cider. I don't have much experience fermenting with either vintner's or baker's yeast.
