Title says it all. Finally upgrading from apartment to house.

Now, just having the bigger space is immediately going to improve the quality of my brews. A couple items are pretty much givens: a CFC, ro/di garden hose filter, a nice propane burner, and a cheap chest freezer with a temp controller so I can finally control my fermentation temps.

But word from Mrs. Bernerbrau is that there might just be a budget for something a little more substantial.

So if you were in my position, what would YOU splurge on?

1. A 2nd chest freezer & controller. That way you could do lagers too.

2. More kegs?

3. Bigger pot or MLT to upgrade batch size?

4. Ingredients

What is "Go Commercial"?

Meaning your gonna buy a house and start a pro brewery? Might wanna reconsider how "substantial" your savings, was. ;)

I'll make this as easy as I know how.

So easy a caveman can do it. But IP?

Bah, didn't see the poll. I think you added it after I replied!! That's definitely what happened!

How many fermenters do you currently have? and you currently bottle correct? I'd get up to 4 fermenters, then build the 4 tap kegerator. See, my opinion can't be solved with your options :p

What would I do you ask? In addition to the chest freezer I'd get a couple of standup freezers with temp controllers to use for my two new concile fermenters! Or better yet, skip the standups and get a couple of these from MoreBeer. That's what I'd do.

you didn't describe the house or give any pictures so we could design your bar, or walk in fridge, or.... so i went with something else option because personally I would rather not have to unload any brewing equip to fund any maintenance or repairs that come up. you won't even realize how much you spend in the first few months of new home ownership, and when you do you are gonna need a drink. On second thought maybe the rator isn't a bad option...who needs repairs when you have a kegerator?

cheers

Given permission from the war department i would get a conical fermenter so fast the ink would not be dry on the mortgage before the wife changed her mind.... all other things can be accumulated..... (i learned this from her shoe closet): honest honey, i have had that xyza item for some time, i dont know why you didnt notice it.

Glycol cooled conical - that way when you go underwater I can pick one up for less than a kidney and right arm.

All jokes aside, congrats on the new house!! From personal experience, I'll echo brewingmeister and say that you should plan the inaugural brew rather than the inaugural brewing purchase.

Temp controlled Fermentation Chamber!!! The way I see it, what good is a kegerator if your beer isn't as good as you can make it? Besides, a chest freezer + temp control is only $120 tops.

Edit: Wait, I just re-read your OP...you are already getting my proposed item lol...get 2 temp controlled freezers!

I've got two, one for fermenting, one for kegerator. I don't regret it at all.

Get yourself a good brewery. The other options are nice but if you don't have a good brewery.........

+1, That's where it all starts. Then temp controlled ferments, then kegerator. Focus on the process grasshopper.

Well, since you're already getting the freezer/temp controller (best thing I did for my brewery) I voted for more fermenters so you can make more beer/brew more often! Realistically, and hate to be a downer, you should get a savings account - lots of home repairs/improvements in your future. Congratulations.

Yes, savings account will be a given as well. :mug:
