Right! I'm going to transfer it to a dutch oven with veggies in it and let it finish in the oven, then the entire thing goes into a cooler full of towels for an hour or so.

Bumping my own thread. No shame, apparently.
I helped my brother in law tag his first elk a few days ago. He brought it into a processor since they ship out of state. I couldn't be more happy!
He started hunting with me last year, when I helped him shoot his first deer. Unless he pulls a moose tag next year, I'm not sure how I can top that!

On topic:
I just finished deboning my elk, I processed both of our hearts and his liver (I annihilated mine) and everything is in the freezer to start taking my time to properly clean, trim, and package all of my cuts.

How was everyone else's hunt been treating them?

I didn’t hunt this year, but took my daughter on her first pronghorn hunt and she also got her second buck deer this fall too. Both critters are boned and in the freezer and I made 20 pounds of summer sausage with some of the antelope so far.

Tagged this guy on day 2 of rifle. I dropped him at a local processor because we’re under drought conditions and with a shallow well, even in good times our cabin’s water supply is shaky.

This was my 3rd buck in 4 seasons.

I'm impatiently waiting for gun deer opener, as our last tenderloin got used this weekend with breakfast sausage and smoked ring bologna being all that remains.

Also patiently waiting for rifle opener (Saturday after Thanksgiving) I did not have a chance to get out in archery which was frustrating but life happens. This year my daughter will be joining me for her first hunt, she's 12 and finished her safety course in September.

When are your seasons? That seems awfully late! Here in MT, we've been rifle hunting since the last weekend of October and the season doesn't end until Dec 1. But my dad drew a cow moose tag this year which started Sept 1!

Also, I look forward to the day my son joins me hunting, is your daughter pretty excited?

Rifle starts Saturday after Thanksgiving a day runs for 2 weeks. Last day is Dec 14th so we now get a 3rd Saturday. No Sunday hunting with the exception of 1 Sunday per season type, meaning there's a Sunday for archery, a Sunday for rifle. This is a fairly new concept for us as Sunday hunts have just become legal days a couple years ago and are designated by the game commission as to which Sunday you're allowed to hunt.

Wisconsin is a 9 day gun deer season (followed by a muzzle loader week) that goes the weekend before through the weekend after Thanksgiving. Last year we were traveling, so I only managed to tag a doe during the ML season.
