While you are burning off the paint, you might as well oxidize the kettle.

Nice burner. If you are in a windy area, you might consider wrapping the legs in aluminum foil to block the wind.

Make sure it's all gone so you dont get a "flavor" you didnt ask for in your beer. Ask me how I know.....

How should I oxidize the kettle? I just upgraded equipment!

I cleaned my pot with a hreen scrubby pad gently, then put it on to boil a full pot of plain water. The resulting gray haze is the aluminum oxide film you are looking for. Once it has boiled for a whie a quick rinse and put i to use. Thats how I did both of my pots, my HLT and BK.

You don't have to worry about oxidizing the kettle. That is important for aluminum but seeing as you have a stainless brew pot you don't need to worry.

Be sure to scrub out those fittings. Mine had a film of machine oil that came out in the first brew. Lesson learned.
