I'm convinced that they're trying to get the current members to drop out on their own accord. Thus paving the way to sign up new suckers to max out on the overpriced blends. Seems like most HS members are being very selective nowadays. Rather than booting the deadbeat hoarders and taking a hit to their rep they'll make it easy for them to choose not to renew.

Included in the hoarders membership for 2017 are 2 bottles each of 2 beers noone wants and 4 beers noone knows anything about. Add to that, 3 bottles each of 3 rebrews/rereleases and 1 sorta but not all that interesting beer.

I was on the fence about renewing. None of the details in the renewal email excite me like it did last year. I shall leave the fate of my renewal in the hands of my buddies (if they want to buy into an equal share) and if I can find a new trustee.

I'm also very confused on what beers are included with membership. M13 now isn't being brewed, and M15 is no longer included with membership to be replaced by some **** blend society members made? Anyone got a tally of what we got, and what we can expect to receive?

Just said it wasn't up to their standards on the big scale. So they're replacing with SitR w/Kumquats instead.

It was undrinkable. Tasted like camembert. Weird fat floaties. In no way resembled the beer from two years ago.

I have to wonder what sort of response the Bruery expected with some of these changes. The BA thread is more negative than I can recall a Bruery BA thread ever being, even in the midst of some of their more dumpster fire moments. I'm sure there are plenty of people to fill open slots but increased churn in your client base has its downsides...

I'll probably renew. HS is far too convenient for me to let go. I'm highly selective about what I order. And maybe I'm lucky but I've been able to trade most of the bottles I buy $4$ for Tree House, Trillium, Toppling Goliath and Monkish IPAs which have gotten through this long hot summer. I've probably only drank about 4 Bruery bottles all year.

Well when you spin it like that I certainly sound like an idiot. And that may be the case. I can't say with a great amount of certainty that that's not the case.

But to paint a peachy picture, I split my membership with 2 other guys so the $700 recurring payment is actually about $250 after taxes. The Bruery is a 5 minute detour off my daily commute and actually breaks up my 1.5 hour drive quite nicely. I tend to order only about 3-4 bottles at a time so loading and unloading is not a big issue. As far as shipping across the country, that's simply me being an idiotic beer nerd that enjoys trading for beers that aren't typically available to me. And just to address your last point, not all of the IPAs I trade for are brewed 3,000 miles away. In fact, Monkish is only about 12 miles away but there's no way in hell I'm showing up to a 5am parking lot share just to score some cans when a quick and easy IP trade with some easily acquired Bruery beers does the trick for me.

Mocha Wed was pretty much the only beer I cared about and the last two bottles I opened didn't feel the same to me. Now add in how much of a modern times homer I'm turning into and I am one happy camper.

Patrick provided an explanation on a few things over there:

• The new store came about due to the need to upgrade to be PCI compliant. The custom features would have to be rebuilt from scratch and there was no guarantee the load issues would be solved. Rather than spending a significant amount of money on that, they went with Vinespring, which a lot of wine producers use and they believe should resolve load issues.
• Exclusives are tough because of inventory, demand, forecasting, etc. Basically, a release could potentially be exclusive if everyone buys it up in the allocation week and requests additional bottles.

I'll renew because I still love the weekday beers and Chicagoland releases are a complete ******* disaster. I have zero interest in getting involved with those debacles or chasing a beer down. Give me Black Tuesday (the port for RS helps) and the variants along with some other interesting releases and I'll be good.

My initial reaction was that this could be one decadent bottle of yum...in the vein of olde hickory - lindley park.

But then I remembered how my rollercoaster ride of emotions with the Bruery usually pans out:
Something sounds amazing on paper.
Sight unseen, I buy a couple.
Then I try it and end up not liking it at all.
Deep regret sets in of buying it.
I then give my remaining bottles away to friends.
...the cycle repeats itself

I just dont get the bruery blending thing, just like I didnt understand their fascination with making beer cocktails. In any of these cases has the sum of the parts ever been better than the individual ingredients? I enjoy the anniversary old ales. At times, I enjoy BT. I have not liked any of the beers that blended the 2 together more than the original beers themselves. Heck, im not even that into GM, MW or CR moreso than good old BT. Maybe im just a bitch who enjoys simplicity... or maybe im just now learning how far apart the Bruery and I have grown in what we enjoy.

I think that is common. Chocolate and Raspberry, to me, is a god awful combo. I also hate Chocolate and orange though for whatever that is worth. Pretty bummed I'm being forced these bottles through the included beers. Then again I gave Ukulele a 3% chance of not being total garbage, and I didn't hate that beer. And I have a strict DONT CHILI MY BEER policy.

I won't be renewing RS this year. Didn't care for the frucht series, their beers are really acidic. I love the concept, make a large amount of berliner, fruit it and sell it at a reasonable price. That's why people love de Garde. For the price of this membership I could fly to Tillamook and buy a whole case for better quality goods. The Bruery is just so damn expensive, I don't know why I justify their prices in my head.

Seems like the weekday beers are all they have going, then people bitch about them going to Preservation Society. They might as well go to distribution, no one wants them for trade.
