Bruery Societies 2016 Allocations/Discussion Thread

Ukulele was probably the worst beer I've ever had. I'm excited for this Hoarders beer. I also love chocolate and raspberries.

I've had way worse Bruery beers. Quad Tonellerie, Ebony & Oak, Imperiall Or Xata, M11, Shegoat, Couverteur, Floyd D'Rue , Roble Blanco, Oude Tart w/ Boysenberries off the top of my head.

Seems like the weekday beers are all they have going, then people bitch about them going to Preservation Society. They might as well go to distribution, no one wants them for trade.

Maybe so, think I realized I drink more saisons this year. After Firestone, bottle logic and trades I have too many BA stouts / barelywines to justify $40 Bruery bottles

I think a part of it is where I live and the distro here. There's not **** for BA stouts that I can go buy that are worth a damn. I'm all for ease. I clickity clacky on a website and then my awesome trustee ships them to me. So much easier than trading.

And it's my wife's favorite style by far. She cranks through all my stouts.

I think that is the biggest problem, just too many stouts and the easy drinking things get selected first, which causes the BA stouts to pile up more. I always enjoy BT and the variants of it, not usually a fan of the blended high ABV beers, but I am more likely going to drink 3 IPAs/Saisons/Berliners/ than crack a big ABV stout. I think some $15-20, 9-12% ABV Stouts would be great.

That other post about chocolate orange now has me drooling for their Break Away Stout to make an appearance in bottles

Last year they sent out a survey asking about packaging BT in 375's. While not a guarantee seemed like they were pretty close to making that happen. I voted for it, though now it's a pretty moot point for me now since I decided not to renew.

Maybe someone more in the know can elaborate if it could actually happen this year.

Rueminator™
In the 1600s, Franciscan monks created the world’s first doppelbock. In 2008, Patrick Rue established The Bruery. The best of both worlds come together in this rich, malty lager.

It’s quite common for breweries to have “-ator” in the suffix of their doppelbock names. But ours has something theirs does not: a Rue in the prefix (and in the name of our brewery). Rueminator builds on the liquid bread legacy of the doppelbock style and gives it extra fortitude in the traditional fashion of The Bruery. This rich, hearty, smooth lager gains even more depth and character from extensive aging in charred American oak barrels.

The Traveling Plum™
The Traveling Plum is a sour ale inspired by Li Hing Mui - a salty, dried plum snack known for its tart and tangy twist. The snack’s red hue is derived from a powder that consists of ground plum skin that is pickled in a combination of a number of things, including licorice and salt. While we chose not to imitate the red color in our liquid interpretation, we did emulate a number of its other characteristics by brewing with dried plums, adding salt, souring it with our house cultures (pickling with lactobacillus?), and spicing it with Chinese five-spice powder (a mix of anise, cloves, cinnamon, pepper and fennel seeds). Tart, tangy and salty, it’s a fitting refreshment on the road less traveled.

This beer is expected to see limited distribution.

White Chocolate™
This bourbon barrel-aged wheatwine-style ale made a fanciful trip to the chocolatier and returned with luscious flavors of white chocolate - hence the name. White Chocolate is a rewarding summons to the senses - beginning with its golden appearance and finishing with warming, white chocolate-like flavors. This is accomplished by adding cacao nibs from TCHO and fresh vanilla beans to our bourbon barrel-aged wheatwine-style ale, complimenting the rich notes of coconut, honey, caramel and vanilla from extensive barrel-aging.

The Grade™
The Grade is in. It’s built on the backbone of a rich, cold-fermented baltic porter made popular in countries bordering the Baltic Sea. Similar to an imperial porter but distinctly different, the baltic porter style is heralded for being full-bodied, roasty and smooth, with overtones of toffee, coffee, caramel, chocolate and dark fruit. We take it one step further and hammer it home with the bold, sweet flavors of maple syrup and a touch of fenugreek, placing it in a different, experimental class entirely. The Grade is not your average baltic porter, and that’s A-OK in our book.

Rue Sans™
The exploration of wine and beer is one of our favorite frontiers. And with this release, we don’t just blur the lines between the two. We break the boundaries. Rue Sans is a rustic, woody fusion of our sour rye ale with Roussanne grapes. Known for rich, complex notes of apricot and honeysuckle, our friends and collaborators at Sans Liege Wines destemmed Roussanne grapes from Santa Barbara Highlands Vineyard for this rare release. Over the course of four days, the grapes soaked on skins, with ongoing pump overs to submerge them. We then transported the juice to Bruery Terreux and blended it with select barrels of Sour in the Rye, tucking the creation into American Oak barrels to let nature take its course. After nearly a year, the beer emerged with characteristics of both Roussanne wine and something new entirely to the world of sour beer. Like the wine, it shares a commanding palate presence, bold orange color, spice notes and dynamic, robust flavors at every turn. Unlike the wine, it’s a beer.

For being a brand that usually has terrific labeling, a lot of their recent labels look like ******* Hawaiian shirts (Hawaiian shirts NEVER look anything but hideous).
