Getting the $20 back (+tax!) technically makes it right, but this is still a pretty disappointing way to end an already disappointing year. I'm sure they're frustrated with these issues too since it's beyond embarrassing at this point. Probably shouldn't have reupped, but hopefully better things are in store for 2015.

I wonder if they're going to do another "Cleaning the Slate" blog post to end the year, or if their silence should implicitly be understood to mean "We've pretty much lost control of the barrel aging process and are just as hopeful as you that we stop ******* things up."

I'm not even surprised we're not going to get ****, but not providing more of an explanation at this point is pretty silly. They already got our money for 2015 but you'd think they would want to try to repair their credibility with the people who throw the most money at them.

Godammit.
I was expecting **** to be a 25 dollar beer, was that off base?
This was my thought exactly. I figured it being a barrel aged "premium" (read: pseudo-BT variant) that it'd be a $25 beer.

However, one thing in the Bruery's defense, they have a rather rigorous pricing structure, so it may have well been slated as a $20 beer.

I guess mash was 20, so that might've been right anyhow. I'm sure 14 dollar Parabola would be a much, much better anyhow. I haven't seen one of those in 2 years though.

What did they say exactly about ****?
Happy Monday!

For those keeping track, yes, there are still a couple of beers that are on the schedule for this year, but the joy with setting schedules over a year in advance is that sometimes they get off track. We will finish bottling Oaked Old Richland today and, as with all of our beers, will immediately send it through our quality control testing. We hope to have this beer on sale for you starting next Monday, but can't guarantee that just yet. We'll send an email and post on facebook as soon as it is available.

As for So Happens It's Tuesday, which was to be included with your membership, we unfortunately have to announce that it isn't holding up to our standards. We do enjoy this beer a lot and will make complimentary samples available for a short while at our Tasting Room beginning soon, but we don't feel comfortable sending these out as initially intended. We will automatically refund your credit card on file with the full value of this beer ($20+tax) before the end of December. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Look below for some pairing suggestions for the currently allocated beers which will be on sale through December 31st (we added a week due to the still upcoming release) via www.TheBrueryStore.com

Beer pickup and/or shipping is available beginning today. We do request 24-48 hours notice before a pickup so that we can have your beer ready to go when you arrive.

Cheers,

The folks at The Bruery

I like that and all, but what credit card that I have on file? The one that I used for my last order, or the one I used to pay for the 2013 HS membership (because this one was compromised and closed I believe).

false. I've bought cases of parabola off the shelf in SF for the last 3 years.

Are we suppose to believe **** would have been $20? haha
That's what I was expecting it to be, based on Mash and Smoking Wood. Both are BA strong ales in the 12 - 14% range with no adjuncts, both are $20. I can understand the skepticism, but I would've been surprised if it had come in at $25.

Even if it was, just giving that amount back is lame. Though it is nice of them to give complimentary tasters...probably for a few days during the middle of the week.
I think giving a refund is the option that's least likely to lead to bitching. Replacement beers would elicit complaints from quite a few people for a whole variety of reasons, as would store credit. In theory, I'd like to see them do something a little extra to apologize - aside from free tasters of an admittedly substandard (or infected) beer that are logistically difficult for a lot of members - but at this point in the year, I'm just kinda over it.

I can see how it is $20, but I am surprised, especially with other beers this year (all those blends). Plus it makes the initial package look less valuable at that $300 buy in.

And as you mentioned, the lack of going above and beyond is sad. We front a good amount of money with expectations, just a "my bad" feels like a slight. So glad we gave them that interest free loan. How hard would it have been for them to give us a bottle of each of the beers mentioned in the email?

Cascade recently stopped shipping. I'm not sure if Pelican offered to ship MOAS this year or not. I've always gotten the impression that shipping from Cascade was a little nudge-nudge-wink-wink, and I think they finally got called out on it. (This is just my speculation; when I've asked at the brewery, no one will give any details.) Let's also keep in mind: Cascade and Pelican have dozens of employees; de Garde has 3 full-time and 1 part-time.
As far as shipping out of state...I think it really depends on the receiving state. I don't think Cascade stopped because what they were doing was illegal, but because it's a mess of red tape and fees that make direct shipping not worth it. May as well just distro the beer and let stores deal with delivery.

How about we agree to disagree?

There are thousands of wineries that ship direct to any state where it is legally permitted. Lots of them are small operations. If the laws treated breweries the same as wineries, I imagine that a decent number of breweries would do the same. The fact that roughly zero breweries ship direct makes me believe that it's not legal. But I am neither a lawyer nor a brewer nor a winemaker.
