I'm just curious what Black Tuesday Reserve is.

And I want to know why they haven't done the obvious and make a maple syrup Black Tuesday variant?!

Yeah.

Also, maple syrup sounds awesome! Also, also - if any hoarders members actively hate madeira, I'd happily buy your madeira BT from you...

A couple of weeks ago I drank a BT 13 solo. After about half the bottle I got bored of it so I French pressed it with HF syrup, cinnamon and vanilla. Was awesome. Gave me a killer hangover though. I plan on doing it again with multiple people and adding coffee.

I'm having pangs of regret, but I was also salivating at last year's list and that sure hasn't panned out. Plus I still have 40-some bottles of old allocations plus whatever I haven't picked up PLUS whatever else there is this year, I think I'll manage.

I wasn't terribly excited about the list that came out last year (I prefer sour beers over the dominance of big beers this year), but I'm hooked with the return of SitR w/ Peaches, Confession and the new Bourgogne Blanc.

lol at fume and smooth criminal being forced on RS.

I read the Hoarders post first. That got me kind of excited. I got to the part of the email for RS where it said Fume & Smooth Criminal and they lost all their momentum. I figured I wouldn't renew, and that sealed the deal. Not even SITR w/Peaches could redeem it.

At this point, anything available to RS is done in such quantity that you can trade shelf beer for it.

Sure. **** it. Why not?

Why do they not even give a brief explanation of what these beers are? Am I just a tech idiot? Is there a page that explains what most of those beers are?

The HS initiation package is just a bunch of BT variants.

they probably need to wait until shortly before release to determine if it's going to be called a sour, a barleywine or a sour barleywine.

Haha, well said. I absolutely barbecued them in the online survey they sent us to fill out last week about the scotch ale in scotch barrels that turned into a sour release. I mentioned it in every space they allowed me to type.

The offering of Bois Fume and Smooth Criminal is almost offensive. I cannot see how these are anything but beers they are having difficulty getting rid of. I was going to pass on this year, but the person I split a membership wants to join again. I have found another person to add to our split, so it is now split 3 ways. I am glad I found the other person otherwise I would have dropped after seeing the included beers.

Damn, I did not see an e-mail for a survey and cannot find it in my e-mail anywhere.

Why did they ruin the RS package with ****** beers from last year? I wouldn't buy RS if I was new or renewing. I am not sure about renewing my HS since it seems they just want to put BT in different barrels as HS exclusive.

Yeah, I think I'm splitting it with two other people this year as well. Splitting it this year was a good move as well. I cut down on buying bottles by a good amount.

Because HS is now the only actual 'brewery membership' thing; you know, the single tier that all other brewery membership's are like. It just happens to cost a lot, as with most California crap.

RS is now the proving grounds, a test to see if you are worthy willing to shell out obscene cash for the janky **** first before you might make HS. It's also where more and more experimental failures are relegated to because **** RS people - anyone can just sign up so it's not exclusive enough.

PS (Preservation for those who have forgotten this still existed) is for morons who want to half-ass an RS membership, but with less committment. It's a joke, to lull rubes into thinking they're saving money by skipping quarters that don't interest them but they will be third-class citizens in any event. Plus, Patrick Rue gets to earn some spare change on the side for parking meters and such.

Yep, that's a pretty much spot on description of me.

I don't think it's at all wrong or a bad idea of them to do that with the way things are going regarding beer trademark disputes etc, but why do they feel the need to put all the TMs and Rs in their email to Society members? It's not like this email is going out to a bunch of breweries informing them that The Bruery now owns these trademarks.

Because trademark law.
