I'd trade befuddlement for deGarde all day. I don't have my befuddlement in hand yet, nor have I tried it, but I'd still make the trade all day. [Insert shoulder shruggy emoticon]

Right. Figured the de Garde would be needed for the Wineification but I have no idea how people are valuing these bottles with the higher limits and it being released again next year to RS.

smaller bottle formats and more funky beers aside (which i totally agree with and wish they did), what is difficult about the bruery's shipping process? i asked PMR a while back in some thread on the other site and he said that if they could ship out of california, they would, but they're constrained by the law.

I don't think it's awful, i guess i'm just sick of shipping cases to Indiana. not really their fault, to be fair, but it makes it a lot harder to justify buying a lot of their stuff.
So? I personally think it sounds interesting. But even if I thought it sounded like ass I wouldn't complain. I think Wanderer sucks and didn't complain last year. I didn't sign up for mystery beers. If they don't sound appealing to me I don't spend the money(likely $20-25) and I don't buy it.

I'm not claiming i'm getting screwed or not getting what i'm paying for, i'm saying that it's baffling to me why a brewery that makes good/great beer insists on making weird, niche experiments for expensive, high-profile releases. I say the same thing about Founders Backstage **** and they don't owe me anything either.

I'm not feeling "screwed" or "butthurt", like you said i got everything i paid for. i'm just flabbergasted (and increasingly disappointed/not excited) about the beers they are choosing to make and try and sell to me.

Question for the Hoarders: what would it take to land WII and/or Befuddlement? Would some de Garde and '14 Darkness get it done? I know WII was a max of five and Befuddlement was eight, yes?

Probably depends on what De Garde beer it was. I don't know if I'd trade either for Darkness (not that I think Darkness is bad, just not as different or special).

My biggest concern with a limoncello sour is that limoncello is a pretty sweet liqueur so we're probably looking at another 13%+ sour beer. I guess they figured out something to do with all that infected white oak sap?

yep, same feelings here. I am fine with the theory behind Roble Blanco, but why the high ABV? I like sours I can enjoy drinking with ease and is refreshing, not something that takes effort and is overly intense. Plus, with the large format bottles these high abv beers are not practical for me. If they had small format bottles I probably would have bought one or two bottles of RB, but instead I bought none. I know for certain I would have bought more beer this year had there been small bottle options, instead I literally have bought two bottles all year.

I'll probably just say **** it and drink it and wait for WIII next year. Would probably have to get this done over there and I'd rather jerk it with sand paper than try and complete something in that fashion.

Yeah, I figured as much. Thinking a Bu and a couple non Bus plus the Darkness to round out the cost on both sides. Honestly, with people offering dozens of beers for KBBS and asking for half a case of Prop/Vanilla Rye for a Fermier set I just don't have a damn clue anymore.

Had they released another BT variant(or **** variant) people would be bitching that they're just releasing diabetes in a bottle.
Not me, I'd probably actually buy BT with Vanilla. Had it at the BT release party a few years back and it was great. I know CR has vanilla in it, but I'd like that without the cacao.

I'd buy up all of a fruited BT or a maple BT. Not saying that you specifically would complain, but we'd see other people come out to complain. Bruery simply can't please everyone.

I definitley agree, i'm just thinking that margarita and limoncello (likely high abv) beers were a pretty piss poor attempt. but hey, opinions are like ass holes man
It wasn't their strongest showing or their most creative but I think things like Souroboro or the ******** RS initiation package next year are things to complain about. If I was a RS member there's no way I'd renew with that initial package.

Yeah, Bois Fume and Smooth Criminal is a pretty good kick in the seeds. The lineup was good enough for me though so I went for it. We'll see.

I am a hoarder*, sir, I do not concern myself with the insignificant grievances of plebes and peasants.

(well, 1/4th of a hoarder)

Exactly why I pulled out (well technically my membership is still active, I just found another friend to take my spot in the split I was doing with someone else). The released beers this year have been less than exciting, and with the included beers next year being undesirable I had no reason to rejoin. It almost feels like they are 100% okay with people not rejoining and actually want fresh blood. Why else would they give members failed, more or less, beers from the previous year? If members wanted Bois Fume or Smooth Criminal they would have bought it!

The Salted Caramel **** is apparently a mystery beer for 2015, not 2014. When they were selling RS memberships for next year, they accidentally had it in the verbiage, and later changed it to "Mystery Beer #2." Not a sure sign, but it seems like they accidentally telegraphed one of their surprises, an entire year in advance.

I feel like Oprah with all the likes I just handed out in this thread. I echo the sentiments of many. I'm the ******* that bought the RS lottery tickets hoping for interesting beers. In 2015, I'm putting that toward local beer that isn't $25/bottle and isn't 15% alcohol. I've gone from anger to disappointment and acceptance now.

Thanks for the clarification. Was only half paying attention when this happened so I just assumed it was referring to this year.

Also: rumblings that the M10 blending session resulted in some kind of Mexican chocolate stout, probably at the request of stupac2.
60% BT 40% Mash with Mexican chocolate with Serrano chili peppers and sugar skull. It's a take on Dia de los Muertos and the Mexican hot chocolate drank on that day.

This is the Bruery we're talking about, do you think they're going to pass up the chance to do something gimmicky?

talk about adding stupid inflated cost for no reason. I really hope that ingredient was just used for the blending event and won't be in the beer. Then again, I don't really care, not a member, and would have most likely pass on the sure to be $30-40 beer anyways.

That sounds delightful

I may be off a little. We tried to for a similar base beer blend (we also included anniversary beer) with maple and coffee but didn't do a very good job scaling up our trial batch to our submitted batch. Second batch didn't taste nearly as good as the first. I think if ever given the opportunity we'd probably make the blend 40% BT 40% Mash 20% 7 Swans with the maple and coffee.

Bruery only provided the base beers. All added ingredients were provided by the individuals. Our only requirement was that the ingredients be readily available on large scale for brewing.

Do you work for The Bruery now?

EDIT: Oh I see this was some blending contest.

EDIT: Oh I see this was some blending contest.

Melange #10 and Melange #11 are going to be selected from two separate Hoarders blending parties/contests. Melange #10 will be a non sour beer and the Dia de los muertos beer was the winning beer from that blending party. Melange #11 will be a sour and that blending party is in mid December.

I understand how it worked (I got to go to the BT blendings), I am just stating that it would be frivolous to use skull sugar rather than regular sugar (as if needed at all). I cannot imagine the meringue powder used in making the candy, or any other ingredient, having an impact on the beer.

dat protein head retention.....

There must have been some pretty significant bottle variation there -- your description does not slightly resemble the RB I had. Or, you know, personal taste and all that.

I had it on draft. Paging Ryan_G and grrrah as they were there to experience the pain.

Seriously, it was terrible. If I want a ****** margarita, I'll buy a ****** margarita. I won't go through the effort to buy a crappy imitation beer version.
