So i added brown sugar to 2 gallons of cider, heated it up with some berries, cooled the "wort". has anyone brewed with brown sugar, what was your outcome

Try the cider forum. Haven't done it with cider. In beer it's lightly "rummy," since a portion of brown sugar is molasses. I liked it in an IPA I also lightly oaked. It will thin it out a bit, but cider can be pretty thin anyway, depending on the juice/yeast.

when adding a "substantial" amount of sugars to a cider, it technically becomes a apple wine

but, that's the only way I've done cider/apple wine - adding a 1/2 pound of brown sugar per gallon

I think it's gosh darn tasty

the last batch I backed off on the brown sugar and substituted the rest with dextrose. no reason, just didn't have enough brown sugar available
