Hey all,
I am brewing a 1 gallon kit with my girlfriend tomorrow night and I am wondering about 1 step.

- Add tap water to bring wort up to 1 Gallon mark if level is low.

Would I just add tap water to the carboy without boiling it? Wouldn't that mean there would be a chance of contamination? Should I boil some extra water and let it cool during the 60 minute boil in case I need to add some water to my wort?

Thanks.

Jake

Also, when doing 1 of these kits should I sterilize the pot as well? Or just sterilize a siphon and transfer the wort to the carboy that way.

If your worried about it, just boil an extra gallon for 15 minutes while your boiling your kit. Put a lid on it and then you'll have sterilized water to add.

If you mean sanitize the pot before you boil, no. The boiling will kill any nasties that threaten the wort. If you mean after the boil before pouring, no. Same reason except the steam rising off the boiling wort has done the work for you.

Could always keep a store bought jug of water on the side in case. I've done that, boiled water, and have added it from tap.....so far, no issues.

I started with the BBS kits. I love them. Welcome to the addiction.
