Broken Carboy :(

So i just got done kegging the beer, Cleaned out carboy and was being careful and sober...Had not one drink yet...That might have been the cause And was taking the carboy outside to dump out all the crud and slipped and the carboy hit the concrete stairs while i was holding it.

Good news is, I only got 2 small cuts on my hand...Thankfully.
Could have been allot worse.

I once broke a glass that i had drank over 100gallons of beer with and made a special brown ale in honor of that glass.

In honor of the broken carboy i want to make a beer.

I am looking for suggestions of type of beer and a name.

How about Smee something. As in "Don't try and stop me Smee!" THere are two things you don't reach for when they are falling: Knives and giant glass bottles. Glad you weren't maimed. I have a friend that carries his full glass carboy down a flight of stairs to the basement. I think he is an idiot.

The first batch I ever made I secondaried in a carboy. When I went to the bottling bucket, I picked up 5 gallons in a carboy (no carboy handle, just hands) and carried it up the basement stairs and though two rooms to set it on the counter. And I didn't know why my wife was giving me this dumbfounded "I married and f**king moron" look.

i dont really have much of a choice,
I live in a house that has a dual entry and i brew at the bottom of this flight of concrete stairs. It works nicely. I have plumbed hot a cold water from the laundry room right next to the door going outside so its real handy.

Downside of the location is concrete, set size space, and if it rains the stairs and landing that goes to the top floor of the house can drip water right down to my boil kettle.... Didnt think of that once and lost a batch of brew because of it.
And the worst downside of the location is leaves collect on the stairs....Making a slip hazard. So i wish there was a better way.....Yet to figure one out yet.

My biggest question is why move a full carboy ever? seriously, DO NOT DO IT! The only time I have ever moved mine is for cleaning. Transfer wort in a bucket or SS milk can with a funnel into the carboy...

I love my 6.5 gallon carboys, they let me ferment 12 gallons and that is the magic number for me and my system.

Havent made a before but it seems very fitting.

I am going to guess Beersmith is going to have a fit over this recipe...

I am going to guess the most common malt is 2row. But i am thinking of using vienna and maybe some perle hops or ammarillo.

Do not get me wrong, I am super glad no one got hurt and I get accidents are just that. I also want to say check out this DIY.

I am actually building one of these in a few weeks. like the one Twoheadsbrewing shows. I would rather have to bring 3 cleaning buckets to my fermenter than to waltz them through my home into the outdoors or a sink.

Just some food for thought.

Thats a cool idea, I gotta admit.

Right now, Call it redneck or lazy, But at any rate it works.

So what i have done it taken a normal carboy brush, Cut the handle off and then attached it to a cordless drill. Put a 3 inch chunk of blow off tube around it so when i fire up the drill it doesnt hit the top of the carboy and have the possibility of chipping.

Works really well...Cleans the carboy like no other.
My stupidity of not dumping the the trub/water in a bucket that was not 2ft from me...Tell ya the truth never even dawned on me till i saw your post of your DIY.

You are completely right tho, Why pack something that fragile 40 ft away and up and down stairs when a plastic bucket is a lot smarter move.
