My 2nd hydrometer in 8 brews...these things are fragile! And I'm a klutz...

Can I take a wort sample now and test it tomorrow (after I get to the store to buy my 3rd hydrometer...)?

You should think of investing in a refractometer! Bought one on ebay for less than 25$ including shipping. Works fine and not that fragile. I think you could drop it without breaking lol

I'm still using the first one I bought about 15 years ago.

You can pull a sample and store in fridge.

I forget to take IOG reading all the time since my primary is a 46L carboy with a 3" opening.

BTW, if you have a properly calibrated refractometer, at the end of fermentation you can take a refractometer reading and a Hydrometer reading and get an estimated OG.

Wow, some of you have been using hydrometers for years? I'm impressed. I felt better when the dude at the homebrew store told me he'd broken 2 in one batch before.

I've been thinking about a refractometer investment. Next thing on my list...
