SWMBO has a hankerin to get me to brew something exotic using Horehound and honey. I've looked around and found a few old-world recipes that just dont seem to add up (one calls for 2lbs of horehound!).

Does anyone have any resources or experience working with this ingredient? The closest I've come to having horehound are those candy sticks you get at Cracker Barrel, but she apparently grew up on the stuff from her grandma and wants to see how it can be incorporated into a beer...

How about brewing a Belgian Tripple using the horehound candy instead of the Belgian candy sugar. I have a friend how has done this and it comes out really well.

We discussed that, actually, but I think she really wants to brew with the herb.

BTW, have any Welsh beer recipes?

Bump. :)

I just ordered some horehound seeds because I read somewhere that it can be used as a bitter flavoring for gruit-type ales. Has anyone brewed with fresh or dried horehound leaves? This thread didn't get much activity, but that was 11 years ago; figured I would run it up the flagpole again rather than start a new redundant one.
