Does anyone have experience brewing with an induction burner? I have access to 10g kettles/stock pots that would work on induction burners, but have never really heard of anybody using them for brewing before. One would think they'd be ideal because you can control exact temperature and hold it indefinitely. I recently saw one that claimed to be able to cook with a 10g stock pot and it got me thinking.

Just finished my second batch on our induction cooktop stove. Induction is efficient, fast, and as you mentioned, accurate. The best part is you can go from full boil, to off, and back to full boil in seconds.

I know that steeping temperature is held at "4" on the control, a moderate boil is "7", "8" is vigorous and "9" is a messy boil over. The heating is very even. Because it is so efficient, you get to temperature faster with the same energy input.

If you do boil over, wipe it up with a towel and don't worry about scraping burnt crud off your stove or lighting the towel on fire.

Three years and 74 batches on my Avantco IC3500. One of the earlier users here on HBT. Using it for boil only (not mashing). Regularly do 12-13 gallon boils, but have done a little over 14 gallons in a 62 qt Bayou pot.

The model most people on here use is the Avantco IC3500, you need a 240v outlet though.

There is also this one regarding equipment:

Here is a general google search of HBT for "induction":

I've been using the IC3500 for about 9 months, absolutely love it. I do 5.5 gallon batches starting with about 7.5 gal for the mash (BIAB). 3500W is perfect, get a great boil. There are some people in the post tmendick referenced that are doing 10 gal batches.

EDIT: Oooops!

14 gallon boils!

I been giving this some serious thought this past week or two. I average $6.63 in propane costs with every batch. Just trying to figure out how long it takes to get up to boil temp. I have a 240v mounted on the wall in my garage where I brew anyhow. I believe the previous owner was using it for welding. Just getting tired of the gas grill bottle shuffle, and I am not, sure going with propane service would be the answer.

14 gallon boils!
15.5 gallon kettle w/ IC3500 . . .
