I made my first bstch if IPA ftom a kit. I fermented it for two weeks . I had problems racking and bottling but I got it done. Its been a week and a half in bottles is it to early to open one up and try one? Also I am not sure if it is so carbonated is there a way to carbonate it so it doesnt go to waste.
 
in bottles there is no way to know if its carbed up. What temp were the bottles stored at? warmer means faster carbonation, but too warm is no good either. I have found that around 70 degrees I get good carbonation results in about 2 weeks.

IPA's can lose their hop flavor quickly so why not give one a try and see? If you have the cooler space, I have heard that once you get the flavor you want to keep the bottles cold and they will last longer in terms of the bitterness. I don't know how true this is though.

Bottom line, crack one open. IPA's don't usually have high carb levels anyway.
 
Yo wait a minimum of three weeks if it's a normal gravity beer and the beer has been above 70 degrees for that time, and it's in a 12 ounce bottle. You take one from each case, chill them for a minimum of 24 hours, then taste them. If both beers are carbed, then more than likely all the beers are carbed, if only one is, the beer is more than likely not carbed yet and needs more time.

If neither of them are carbed yet, it needs more time...that's it. Carbing is not mystical or magical or complicated, it's yeast, eating sugar and farting co2 for a few weeks...and it's fullproof. But it's a game of patience.
 
I guess you mean to "reseal it so the carbonation remains so it doesn't go to waste". But, you can open a beer to see how the carbonation is progressing. Maybe you can take a quick check and recap but you will have lost some of the pressure. It might be a learning experience to try one every few days but I have learned to wait at least 2 weeks and usually 3 before opening any. At 2 weeks some have become fully carbonated but all of them have tasted better at 3 weeks or longer. Big beers have taken many months for the taste to mature - one almost a year.
 
How do you know if your beer got contaminated . What could happen?
 
A nice trick is to fill 1 or 2 plastic bottles and when they are firm, you have decent carbonation. You can even give them a squeeze before you cap em. This removes some oxygen and when the bottles expand back to normal shape you know they are at least somewhat carbonated without even touching one. But Listen to Revvy and give em 3 wks even if they carb sooner.
