When brewing from extract like in this post https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/beginner-extract-brewing-howto-99139/ do you need to add sugar?
 
It all depends on the recipe. Most extract recipes will only require sugar for bottling. Everything else should be in malt extract or grain form.
 
Depends on the recipe. A beginner recipe (and most extract) only call for sugar (3/4 cup) for bottling to create additional carbonation. I recommend boiling the sugar first in some water. This ensures it is clean. If bottling from a bucket, let the sugar return to room temp and pour into your bucket before siphoning your beer into the bucket. Try not to oxidize your beer when siphoning (don't splash).
