My dad has gotten out of the brewing hobby and has given his old equipment to me.. his loss my gain!

In return, I have promised to make him an IPA of his favorite style but need help picking out a kit!

I had one all picked out at northernbrewer.com, but unfortunately they will not ship to Canada :(

I only have two batches (from my LHBS) under my belt so far. The selection and ingredient quality is not the best at any LHBS stores I've found so I'm going online to look for an extract kit. No full boils until I get the experience/equipment.

austinhomebrew and morebeer.com both will ship to canada so any of their kits would work.

Now for his favorite style of IPA.

Lightly malted/colored
5-6ish % ABV
moderate to strongly hopped (moderate probably compared to the tastes of most beer drinkers on this site :)

Thanks for the tips! This forum has been awesome, I am hooked and looking forward to making some tasty beer!

*side note I am making a Scotch ale at the same time for myself..lightly hopped. Any tips on one of those would be great as well!

I can't vouch for any of their kits but you could look around in the recipe database here and find one that sounds tasty to you. Then, just buy the ingredients that it says you need.

I agree with H-ost. Kits are great, but it just feels better when you put it together yourself. There are tons of great recipes in this database. Sounds like a Bells 2-hearted clone would be right up his alley. Pretty simple, straight forward recipe, and an excellent beer.

I'm going to guess that you were interested in northern brewer's Dead Ringer IPA? If so, it is a clone of Bell's 2-hearted IPA, so you could piece together the recipe by either looking at the ingredients that NB uses, or as smokinj said - look at the recipe for the 2-hearted clone.
