I am in the 2nd day of fermentation of a Brewers best imperial india pale ale and I want to dry hop it with something to give it a really hoppy taste. Here is the ingredient list that was used(as directed by the kit)

6.6lb. Light LME
3lb. GoldenDME

Specialty Grains
1 lb Carmel 80L
8 oz. Victory
4 oz. Carapils

Hops
2oz Bittering (Can't remember what it was)
1oz Flavoring (Also Can't remember what it was)
1oz Aroma (Columbus)

I've never dry hopped any of my beers so I could not be more ignorant on the subject. I've made this kit before and I liked the final product but I would like to give the beer a more hoppy taste. What kind of hops would complement I high gravity IPA? I have about 4 days until I move the beer into a secondary so it should be time to go get what I need. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dry hopping will add aroma but not flavor, so you'd want to go with a more fragrant hop than a bitter one. I'd also recommend making an account on www.hopville.com. It's got an excellent recipe calculator, and stores all your recipes for you so you can remember what hop or malt you used in this brew or that.

I like to dry hop any thing I can get away with. Dry hopping is more for aroma but some people don't understand that 75% of your taste is your smell.

I know for a fact dry hopping does lend to your flavor having done the same recipe with and without. Dry hopping will not add bitterness however.

I would experiment add an ounce of Columbus for 1 week secondary and see if you like it.

Cheers

I love Cascade for dry-hopping. I just throw them into the primary after 2 weeks and let them do their thing for a week before bottling. As said above, Columbus is also good.

I used .5oz each of Columbus,Nugget,& Cascade for a one week dry hop. But it would be better, imo,if you knew what hops went into the boil.
