I'm am planning on extract brewing. Is a spigot on the brew pot worth the extra cost? Don't you get more aeration by pouring into the fermenting bucket than from a spigot?

spigots are good I have 16 gallon kettle which I do 13 gallon boils in for 11.5 gallon batches

you need a spigot to get it out of the pot to the fermenter

so for me yes it is was worth it

all the best

Wiith extract brewing you typically will have a smaller boil maybe 2 or 3 gallon then add a top up to the primary. A spigot would not be necessary as long as there are handles on the B-K that allow you to safely handle It while its hot.

It depends on if you're using carboys or buckets for fermenting. If you're using buckets and doing 5 gallons or less, you can pretty easy just pour the wort into the bucket. But a spigot is better than pouring into a funnel on a carboy.

that maybe be true but when I was doing 11.5 gallon extract brews boiling 7.5 gallons down to 6 gallons or so the spigot was very handy

Less chance of burning the piss out of yourself with scalding water, so.... yes. That's my vote anyway.

It can be a good alternative to pouring your wort through a strainer if the spigot has a screen inside the kettle.

Been happy as can be since I got my 9 gallon with spigot from adventures in home brewing. 1 weld 9 gallon pot is $70 . brass ball valve 12
