hey all..

I'm looking to get into home brewing, and I want to purchase a kit for this, but have no idea where to start. What sites are good, who sells good equipement at a decent price, etc. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it...thanks!!

Those are all great sights.

Also, where are you from? Someone might be able to point you in the direct of a local home brew shop (LHBS) that would be a great help.

Well, the first place I'd recommend is howtobrew.com for basic information. You can see what you 'll need and how it's used. That will help alot- you'll know if you have a brewpot, the big spoon, etc. For equipment, if you buy online, there are some good stores. Austinhomebrew.com is one; morebeer.com; and nothernbrewer.com are some of the ones I've used. I've also heard good things about midwest. I think the prices are all about the same. AHS seems higher priced, but they have a flat rate $5.99 shipping. Morebeer.com has free shipping over $60, but their prices are a bit higher than some other places.

If you have a local brew store, that's a good place to start, too. I bought my supplies as a "kit" and then purchased a few other necessary items, too. A decent thermometer is important- so you can see when your wort is cool enough to pitch the wort. One of those "fermometers" that stick on the outside of your fermenter is fine for that, and you can monitor the temperature during the fermentation, too. I also recommend an auto-siphon which might not be included in an equipment kit.

You can decide whether you want to find a recipe on your own, or if you want to buy an ingredients kit. I've bought kits from AHS and they are very good with great instructions. The Brewer's Best kits are good too- you can choose a beer type and follow their directions and make some really good beer!
