This is my first brew. It's about 7 days old, in a room with a temp of 19 degrees. I popped the top of to check the hydrometer reading and its nowhere near time to bottle. My air lock hasn't shown any activity this whole time. I thought there should be more foam in the brew. Does this brew look infected?

Dude! Put that lid back on there and leave that sucker alone! :D The yeasties know what they are doing. Also, please, be sure to sanitize everything that goes into that wort- like that hydrometer you popped in there. It is hard to leave a freshly fermenting batch alone, but I have found that the best thing to do it leave it alone. If you didn't see any activity in the airlock the whole time (from pitching) then perhaps you have a seal issue- be sure your bucket is completely closed off and sealed- let those yeasties chew on that sugar and you'll be good to go in a couple of weeks!
