I brewed an all grain brown ale today and after I added the sparge to my mash it developed like a cake when I drained

But then cake isn't real. Right? Or only cake is real. We are cake. Mash cake.

Did you remember to drink while brewing? If not, I suspect either dehydration or soberness to be the root issue.

Even with biab, I get some mushy, floury grain stuff in the bottom of both the mash kettle & sparge kettle. I strain the sparge into the MT/BK. Then after chilling, it all gets strained into the FV. This also aerates it nicely.

I moved this thread. in case you guys are wondering...

What I mean is usually my grain packs down a bit but this time it looked like a perfect smooth rounded sheet cake. It only had a gap around the outside of about a half inch. I was just worried that I might have lost out on some sugars because the water just ran down the sides even though I used a strainer to "make it rain" when I sparged.
