So I've been brewing for some years made a keggle and an imersion chiller thanks to this forum but I continue to struggle during brew day. Which is why I haven't brewed in over a year. My batches come out great it's just the road to get there is quite bumpy. So I'm wondering if anyone is interested in getting together and make a couple of batches. I'm in Hanover park IL

I live in Florida but you're on the right track. Check for clubs in your area. I learned a bunch brewing with a guy from work a few years ago. I don't necessarily brew the same way he does, but did make a few changes for the better. I usually brew alone now with the help of a march pump and keeping everything organized. It would still be better with a buddy though!

your post along with the handle "Cable Guy" sent my brain off to la la land for a second there. imagined meeting up with a stranger to brew and it turns out to be jim carey's character from cable guy. lol.
I'm quite a ways away though man, sorry I didn't help at all with my post. just thought I would share my lulz.

I'm in Joliet, so I don't think I want to travel that far, or else I'd help you out.

Go to the American Homebrewers Association website and see a listing for Illinois homebrew clubs.

I think CHAOS might be a brew club that operates in your area.

There is also a forum on this website that may help you find a club in your area. I'm pretty sure somebody was starting one up in Elgin.

It's a lot of fun getting together with fellow brewers / beer geeks on a regular basis. Highly recommend it!

cableguy0170, the closest club to you might be The Pour Boys who meet at Bigby's in Addison, IL every second Tuesday (you just missed the last meeting) of the month.

I belong to the Chicago Home Brewers Group as well as The Pour Boys. The CHBG runs the biggest group buys in the area; hell maybe even in the country. We typically bring in 15,000 Lbs of grain alone on average. If you're interested in CHBG check out the links in my sig. Here's a link to the Pour Boys:

What kind of struggles are you having on brew day? All grain or extract?

I'm in Schaumburg and would be willing to lend a hand, only thing is this time of year is terrible for me. Kids in BBall and when I get a free day, I'm usually going to brew myself. Not sure either how much I'd be able to help out. I think I have a good handle on my system, but not sure how well that would translate to helping someone else out.

I live in the Elk Grove Area. Only been doing 3 gallon BIAB stovetop batches, but they turn out great! (Usually) I am lucky enough to brew with one of my friends. I've tried brewing on my own, beer came out alright, but you're right it was a rocky road.

I've also been looking for a brew club to join and just learned that the Pour Boys meet at Bigby's! I will be attending next month's meeting.

P.S. Go Cyclones!

I'm in Arlington Heights and I work in Schaumburg. I haven't read through all the responses in this thread, but if you still need a pal let me know. I have been at it for a year and I'm pretty comfortable with my BIAB brew days.

Is this the "chicago brewers" thread? Mundelein checking in, or i will be in two months... west loop for now

Well since we're discussing Chicago home brewers, check us out at the Chicago Home Brewers Group forum and Facebook links in my sig.

I am in the same boat. I brewed with my son all last year, but he is away for college now. I have made 4 AG brews now on my own and it is quite harder.
Organization is key...but there is nothing to do about the lugging tuns/LT's and kettles around. I am 48 with arthritis in my right knee, I am sore all the next day.
My plans are to get a pumb and a second burner. That should at least eliminate the heavy lifting.
But I would still like to find a couple brew buddies for the fun factor. Nearest home brew club is 45 minutes away.

Thanks to all for the responses, I forgot to mention I do 5 gallon batches with partial mashing. Looking to go all grain and get to 10 gallons. 5 gallons tends to go quick with handing beer out to friends. On propane I was going to convert to natural gas but I got the electric bug now.
