I went to the last Dark lord this year and got to try both on tap. I think normal Dark Lord is a hot mess and they should just focus on making it for pancakes and waffles...maybe a sundae. We were able to get quite a few pours of the vanilla and I found that it smoothed the beer quite a bit and balanced it out. I actually prefer the bourbon barrel version over it. I got notes from the barrel where the vanilla I didn't get any. SAISON **** I agree with him. I liked that variant over all of them. I won a bottle of vanilla dark lord and was more than happy to trade it away for quantity of better beers...if that says anything. I also could be an *******.
