Has anyone used the Jack Daniels bourbon barrel smoking chips to make a bourbon barrel beer? If so what were the results? Anyone have thoughts on using these or just soaking oak chips in bourbon for a few days and aging with that?

Never used the Jack chips, but I did just brew a 5 gal. batch of Denny's Vanilla Porter... soaked 2 oz of medium toast French oak chips in Jim Beam for two weeks, drained most of the liqueur, and added the chips to secondary for two weeks before racking off and kegging. Very subtle but evident, which is what I was going for.
If you're going to try it, go easy the first time.
