Now that is a cool idea. I never thought of that at all. I did have to convince my FIL that pulling the caddyshack routine in my yard is probably not the best approach.

Yooper. Pellet gun is effective. You just have to actively hunt for them. Although if your hubby is just as annoyed by them as I am, he may be up for the gratification of the hunt.

I had heard of it when I was a kid, getting $1 each for the chipmunks in my grandma's neighborhood. This lady she knew said that they used to go out with a truck with a water tank and do this for gophers or something. At $1 each, I was willing to try it. It works! But you can't just pour down any hole. It's go tot be the one they just went down. They will sit just under ground waiting a bit for you to leave. When the water comes in, they first place they go is straight up... into the jug!

Pellet gun works great, I also found some Aguila Super Colibri .22 cartridges that are primer only (no powder) and in a rifle they're even quieter than my air pellet guns.

I had a ground hog in my back yard the other day. Whacked him with the .22 and these bullets.

Must have been a rough weekend for me, when I first read this I was thinking you were over run with chimpanzees and all I could think was "Where the hell does this guy live?" :cross:

About 45 minutes outside Philly. What you don't have Chimpanzee's over in NJ?

Your problem would be easier to solve if it was chimpanzees, just wait till winter and they would all die.

What kind of pellet gun do you have / recommend?
I used to have a Daisy that would load BBs and allow manual loading of pellets.
Are there different sizes? Would I rather have a pellet-only gun?
(you can tell I'm a real aficionado)

I am also overrun with chimpmunks, moles, voles and chimpanzees.
I suspect the new neighbors terrier chased them from his woods, and into my yard.

I noticed they love the pile of spent grain, it will make nice bait.

I have several from my childhood and more recent. The one we used when I was a kid was a single pump and worked fine, BBs and Pellets. The newer one I got is a multipump, and it does hit pretty hard. I put a scope on it and if you sight with the same number of pumps, is pretty accurate.

Daisy and Crossman make decent cheap guns. You can spend much more and get a real nice one though.

:off: that pic is AWESOME!! He's not budging for no damn squirrel.

I agree, bulldogs look awesome. I was looking at getting one but they are almost too lazy. How are they to train, I read they were fairly stubborn?

Going with a Newfie slobber and all on the next dog.

DON'T USE POISON!!! I about killed my neighbor after he killed my dog! He used poison and the gophers/moles/whatever he was killing crawled over to our place to die. Respect the fact that others have animals that could eat the body of the poisoned creature you just killed. I think the pellet gun or predatory animals methods are best! I'm just trying to convey that I don't believe ANYONE has the right to kill my dog, accidentally with no malice forethought of possible consequences included. The guy didn't mean to kill my dog, but he did! Antifreeze is a horrible way to die for any creature! I'm not saying don't kill the little bastards, just be humane!

Well, my regimen of speciel cleansing may consist of copious amounts of poison. However, I suppose I should give the neighbors a heads up. (as much as their yappy terrier annoys me) I don't want to be the cause of the family's pets demise.

We'll see how the pellet gun does, but yes, we should be careful with the poison. Good point WM. The fact that a dog could be harmed by second-hand poison would have never occurred to me either.

Maybe this will work.

That gets my vote! Just palce those around the trees!!

I vote non poison due to neighbors pets. This coming from a guy whose dog just killed our neighbors 12 year old daughter's rabbit.

Pick'em off one by one on the porch with some brew. Sounds like a nice evening to me!

:off:Bulldogs are great dogs. Our first one we picked up from the breeder as a puppy. He was GREAT. He would do just about everything by command. He would even sneeze on command. :) He was extremely athletic for a 65lb bulldog. He was very easy to train. BUT, they are very stubborn at times. Not really disobedience, as much as they sometimes have a better idea of what to do than you do. :) Our rescue bulldog on the other hand? Not so much. Lazy, bull headed, and won't listen. Luckily he's too lazy to do much other than fart and burp.

Back on topic. No poison for me. If I lived in gods country I would have no problem but the risk of secondary poison of cat's and predatory birds in the neighborhood is too great. Sticking with the pellet gun, got another tonight. Having a Stone IPA on the deck as I type with the pellet gun on my bench. :)
